Arguedas Photography

I am an award-winning wedding and portrait photographer that is influenced by the documentary/photojournalist aesthetic of capturing candid moments that reflect the natural interactions between people.   

Ever since I was little, I liked doing creative things. I drew quite a bit, played musical instruments, and painted. I'm a big ol' nerd that did well in physics and math so I thought I'd study something science-related in college, but once I got there I couldn't stand it. I ricocheted from major to major and on a whim took a photography class as an elective. Boom. I found my calling. 

I transferred to art school, got a degree and worked in various office jobs while I continued my fine arts work. One fine day a friend of mine told me she was getting married and needed a photographer. She loved my documentary work and wanted me to be as creative as I'd like in shooting her wedding. It was hard, rewarding work and I had such a blast that I finally decided to make photography my career. After over 150 weddings I love what I do just as much as when I started.  

I'm based in Boston (specifically Somerville) and primarily shoot in New England, but I'm also available for travel!

P.S. Yup, Johnny is my real name! My grandmother thought I should be named "Giovanni" but my mom reminded her that we're Costa Rican, not Italian. Johnny was the compromise.
