My parents and I went to 4 wedding cake vendors in 1 day (I was traveling from out of town and had limited time) so we really directly were able to compare cakes and vendors. Our choice was easy -- Dessert Works had the most delicious cake, as well as the most nice and professional staff. Not too heavy or too light, and the flavors are amazing. Dessert Works was great about working with our budget -- we went with a 3-tier cake with lemon cream on the botton and marble with buttercream frosting on the top 2, and had a sheet carrot cake sent to the kitchen for cutting, which saved some money compared to having all the cake as a tiered cake. Sadly, I didn't get to try cake on my wedding day (was too busy dancing and talking with guests) but the bit of lemon cream I tried during the cake cutting was just as delicious as at the tasting. We got lots of compliments from our guests on the cake, so I'm sure the other flavors turned out great too! The decorations were beautiful and the cake arrived right on time. I called a few times to adjust the cake size as we had a more accurate head count closer to our event, and about a few other nuts and bolts -- the staff was always able to take my call or return it the same day to answer my questions. Really super nice people. And the anniversary cake is adorable. Instead of freezing the top tier of the cake, Dessert Works gives you a tiny little tiered cake version of your wedding cake. I loved how it looks and can't wait to eat it in a year! Thanks so much to Dessert Works -- would definitely recommend.

Jamaica Plain, MA 4/17/2012 I will preface this review by saying that I have a major sweet tooth and the cake taste was very important to me. We selected Dessert Works as our cake vendor for our wedding mainly due to customer service, artistry and taste. We loved that our cakes for the tasting were custom made and that the experience was so personalized. We had also tried several other vendors but no other vendors could hold a candle to the artistry we saw in the design and execution of their cakes. The price was a little higher than some other vendors we visited but the quality of the cake taste was much higher than other vendors and the artistry was above and beyond what we saw at other vendors. They have a very good artistic eye and all prices were explained carefully and understandable. All interactions leading up to the day were pleasant and accurate. Because of their artistry, I saved up to upgrade to the rolled chocolate flowers and I was not disappointed. They look better than real flowers, they were absolutely amazing. They also do a separate anniversary cake in a cute box that makes it that much easier as you don't have to have staff save the top tier. Delivery was great and we received many compliments on the cake, we did the marble with chocolate mousse frosting. The chocolate mousse frosting is to die for and I didn't taste anything comparable at the other vendors. Kristen and her staff (we worked with Anne as well) were amazing and Leonardo, Kristen's husband and co-owner was awesome as well. Wonderful people, great staff and out of this world ridiculously beautiful and delicious cakes. One of the highlights of my night, and I was still shoveling some leftover cake last night, 3 days later and it still tastes amazing! Go with this vendor, you will not be disappointed!

Our cake was included in our package at the Tiffany Ballroom and was just beautiful!! Everything we asked for was delivered. There are many designs to choose from and many flavors of cake and filling as well. DessertWorks invites you for a tasting of three choices of cake flavors and we had a hard time deciding. Our cake was three tiers so we chose two flavors one for the top tier and one for the bottom two tiers. On the day of our wedding we couldn"t believe how beautiful and unique our cake looked. Our guests agreed. And it was incredibly delicious. At the end of the night we were presented with a miniature of our cake in a sealed acrylic box to protect it while in the freezer awaiting our first anniversary. They call it a honeymoon cake. It brought tears to our eyes it was so adorable. I HIGHLY recommend this bakery for any occasion.

We had three flavors...Red Velvet, Carrot, and Chocolate Raspberry. My husband usually does not like chocolate cake, and isn't a huge fan of carrot cake either, but he LOVED both flavors at Dessert Works. In fact, he enjoyed those two more than the Red Velvet, which is one of his favorites. We spent more than I had ever planned on spending for a wedding cake, but our cake was beautiful and worth every cent. Completely delicious. I almost forgot to mention three funny stories: 1) My husband walked into the consultation room and the first thing he said was "this is what a cake tasting is supposed to LOOK like." 2) They were incredibly patient with me and my notorious indecisiveness and crazy OCD planning tendencies. I even brought sketches to our first meeting!! (post wedding, I am laughing at myself) 3) We went back after our initial consultation (because we're greedy, lol) and bought a pumpkin cheesecake pastry for a friend...it was so good, she hid the rest from her...

Dessert Works cakes are awesome! They were friendly, detail oriented and flexible regarding the size and design of our cake. They also include a honeymoon cake which was is a mini of our wedding cake ☺. The flavor choices were so amazing it was hard to pick but we picked cappuccino and Boston cream and the cake was AMAZING many people told me it was the best wedding cake they had ever had. The design and colors were just as we had requested. I would highly recommend them.

I went out on a limb and let my husband pick our cake. It was the one piece of the wedding planning that he felt very strongly about. He chose Dessert Works and I couldn't have chose a better venue myself. He fell in love with their red velvet cake - and I have to admit it was love at first taste for me too! They were so helpful and professional during the consultation. Our wedding cake came out amazing - both beautiful and delicious!

The best cake I have ever eatten. Had their cake at a friends wedding and I knew I had to have them do my. They have a wide variety of flavors not typically offered as standard, we had cappuccino torte and boston cream pie, and instead of fondant they used rolled chocolate. They made the most perfect cake for me and three after the wedding the boston cream pie was still as moist as the day we got married.

A lot of people either don't eat the cake at a wedding or assume the worst. My mom and I went to Dessert Works and met with Claire who helped us through our first tasting. We were immediately blown away by the flavors and variety. I think we ate too much at our tasting, but it was too good not to finish. We ended up with a red velvet cake with a cream cheese frosting. Everyone licked it clean off their plates and complimented us on how delicious the cake was. I think by far this is the best cake I have ever consumed - even better than a local Brookline/Beacon Street favorite. Not to mention, they gave us a the small top piece to freeze for our 1 year anniversary in a glass box that makes you smile each and every time you open up the freezer. They are amazing to work with and fairly priced. We also used them for my Bridal Shower before my wedding as they created a variety of flavored cupcakes. Also a huge success!

OMG!!!! DOn't bother with the "bug guys" You know who they are - all fluff and no stuff. They may look pretty and put on a good show, but taste - they get a 2.5 at best. Not Kristen - if i could give her more than a 5, i would. She was so sweet and great to work with. My daughter (the bride) and I did our first tasting with her the day after she opened in her new (adorable) location in Westwood. We went back a 2nd time with the groom and grandma and she was just as attentive the 2nd time. One mouthful and the groom agreed - this was the place. Kristen and her crew designed exactly what they wanted - custom done from a picture they had seen, but totally different. And the taste - wow! Our guests are still talking about the cake more than a month later - and we keep going back for more. And we have a perffect miniature, packed in a plastic case, to have on the first anniversary. You must check out Dessert Works - you'll be converted in a taste!

Our wedding cake was exactly what we ordered! The flowers matched my color scheme. Our cakes was served as dessert and everyone loved it! We receveived emails and phone call along the way to make sure our count hadn't changed or to review the cake flavor. From start to finish Dessert Works didn't disappoint.

Working with DessertWorks was amazing! They were friendly, accommodating and put out a great product. She met with us last minute and made sure to have the flavor I requested on hand. It was one of the few things at the wedding that looked exactly as I pictured. They also include a honeymoon cake which was adorable and delicious. We will definitely be ordering another one for our one year anniversary!

Dessert Works made our wedding cake and groom's cake for our July Wedding. Dessert Works came with our package at the Tiffany Ballroom and made a delicious cake! During our consultation, their wedding coordinator explained our package and allowed us to sample their cakes. They were amazing! It made our decision hard because they were all so good. I went in privately to have a surprise groom's cake made for the wedding day for my husband - the cake was designed to look like his soccer jersey. They did an AWESOME job. He was so impressed and surprised. :)

Dessert Works was the first, and only, cake shop we visited! After our initial tasting, it was clear that we didn't have to search any further for a wedding cake! Not only was every single slice of cake we tried DELICIOUS, but the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. Dessert Works shared multiple dessert options with us until we found a cake combination that we were excited about. After our wedding we received multiple compliments about how wonderful the cake was :) I would certainly recommend Dessert Works to anyone!

We had the best cake. Kristen worked with us to get exactly the cake we wanted. She even made butter cream lilies for us since our flowers were lilies and roses! The cake was gorgeous, and the mini-cake in the clear freezer box is just such a great addition to a wonderful package. Everyone was raving about how good the cake was. I can't recommend this bakery enough!

Hi, From the second I walked through the door of the bakery I knew this was the place that I would get my cake. I sat down for the tasting and it was so good I was sold. They give you so much to taste not a sliver but a slice. I went with a four layer strawberry cream filled, I think it was called that, but see for yourself and try them. They even gave me cake samples to go because my husband to be could not make it. The girl doing the order called back when I asked and the whole process was very smooth. They delivered the cake on time and it was beautiful.

My husband and I considered Dessert Works and one other well-known Boston area bakery for our wedding cake. We ended up going with Dessert Works because of their professionalism, quality, and price. We met with Sara, the wedding cake coordinator, for our tasting. She was very organized and had helped us figure out what type of design would be best for our style and budget. The taste and quality of the cake was incredible! We ended up choosing the dulce de leche flavor for our entire wedding cake. It was sweet, creamy and different than your standard wedding cake. On the big day, we were pleased to see how beautiful our cake turned out! We received lots of compliments from our guests on both the appearance and taste of the cake (one guest admitted to having 3 slices!). One of the other things that I personally liked about Dessert Works is that instead of saving the top tier of cake, they give you a mini-replica of your cake (they call it a honeymoon cake, I think). It comes in a clear box, ready to freeze – so cute!

Dessert Works was the first cake place that we looked at for our wedding and we immediately knew that we had to get our cake from them! They provided us with multiple samples of cake and although it was a hard choice, we settled on the red velvet. On the day of the wedding, I was so nervous, I barely ate, but I made sure to eat all of my piece of cake. It was scrumptious! All of my guests commented on how they have never tasted a wedding cake that moist and delicious before. I would highly recommend Dessert Works!

This was the second wedding cake place we "interviewed," and the difference was incredible. Dessert Works is THE BEST: beautiful cakes that are really delicious, and it's extremely easy to work with them. Here's the difference: Cake place #1 (high end place in Brookline) we were seated in a dirty little area with a million different old albums of cakes. The head baker came over and took notes after asking me questions like "give me three adjectives to describe your wedding." And then she send us home with 4 tiny slivers of very mediocre cake. It was all kind of talk, talk, talk and no specifics--very weird and baffling. Dessert Works: Immaculate space with a wedding specialist to help you. First you taste four large and delicious pieces of cake, and then you talk about cakes. Everything about the cakes and their pricing is quickly and efficiently broken down for you, and the end result is just wonderful. You have to drive a little to get to the bakery (about 30 min from Cambridge/Boston), but it's well worth it. Highest recommendation!

Sara at Dessert Works is amazing! She helped us through the whole process of choosing our flavors, our design, and working out all the final details. She is SUPER quick to respond to emails and was great about making sure we stuck to our budget. My husband and I were unsure if we were even going to have a wedding cake because of the cost, but after tasting their cake and working with Sara, we were convinced. The best part is that the cake not only looked wonderful, it TASTED fantastic!

Sara and the Dessert Works team were a pleasure to work with. Not only was our cake tasting delicious, but stress free and made very easy with all of the options that were given to us. Our wedding cake was original, delicious and creatively decorated. Dessert Works listened to what we wanted and made our vision come true. Our day was that much more speicial knowing that we had a fantastic wedding cake made with love. I look forward to hosting parties JUST so I can serve Dessert Works pastries:-)
